EMtutors is currently looking to hire a committed, full-time English tutor. On a full-time schedule (30 hours/week), our tutors earn anywhere between $3,000 and $4,000 per month by teaching critical reading and writing skills as well as SAT English prep to students in elementary school, middle school, and high school in the Howard County area. We're looking for someone who majored in / is majoring in an English-related major and has teaching experience, in a classroom or otherwise.

Job Hours
- During the academic school year: 3PM to 9PM on weekdays / 9AM to 3PM on Saturdays (You may take Fridays off!)
- The times above are the range of hours within which a student can schedule a class with you. As such, the hours you work will depend on the classes that you schedule with your students.
Eligibility
- Any English related major, English or Education major preferred
- Teaching experience (class setting or otherwise)
- Diligent, able to maintain a regular, consistent schedule
- Can make at least a 2 year commitment
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Teach English (reading comprehension, writing skills, SAT Reading and Writing preparation, etc.) in a 1-to-1 or 1-to-2 setting. 1-to-1 tutoring classes last for 1 hour and 1-to-2 tutoring classes last for 1.5 hours. Teacher to student ratio is at max 1 to 2.
- Teaching: We have our own curriculum outlined in a manual that tutors should follow. However, our curriculum is made in a way that allows tutors to be flexible and incorporate their own teaching strategies into every class. Although there is a basic curriculum frame that you must follow, you are more than welcome to integrate any other resources that you may think is helpful or effective for the student.
- Mentoring: As mentioned, we limit our tutor to student ratio and our tutors usually teach the students long-term. Tutors are encouraged to mentor their students by getting to know them on personal level and building close and trustworthy relationships with their students.
- Organization & Diligence: In addition to teaching academics, we think it is very important to instill organized and diligent studying habits in our students. We have a specific manual that tutors can follow to help bring about strong, organized, and diligent studying habits.
Pay & Benefits
- Hourly rate between $25 to $30.
- A full-time tutor has, on average, a 30-hourwork week as opposed to a regular 40-hour work week.
- The majority of classes are scheduled between the late afternoon to evening so tutors have open and flexible morning hours. (Tutors are required to come into the office 30 minutes to an hour before first scheduled class of the day.)
- As a full-time tutor, you can earn between $3,000 to $4,000 a month.
- We don’t have set vacation days but you can take vacation and sick days flexiblyas long as you let the manager know in advance.
- Health insurance is optional and negotiable. If you opt for group insurance, we are open to negotiate employer-employee coverage ratio.
