I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with and some major mishaps, but through it, all my passion for film photography has never faded. My journey to becoming a fine art film wedding photographer has been a difficult one. Between learning film stocks and the correct type of camera to use, I’ve grown with my photography and I can say it’s definitely because of film.

I decided to dedicate today’s blog to answer a few common questions that I have received over the years.

Why do I love film?

I love the look of film. Slightly out of focus, soft color pastels the look of film is nothing like we remember from the 80s and 90s point and shoot cameras. Film has its own feel, its own vibe, when I look at professional film photos today it reminds me of luxury.

What is my favorite film stock?

That’s a tough one. I’m madly in love with Portra 400. I love the way it looks on darker skin tones, particularly African Americans. I also love love love Ektar 100. When shooting anything with bright colors Ektar is always my go-to film.

Do you still shoot digital?

Yes. I still own a digital camera but I use it more for personal projects. I will on occasion bring my digital camera as a backup, but for right now I mainly only shoot film for all sessions and weddings.

How many rolls of film will you shoot for our wedding/session?

That’s a tough one! I shoot a combination of 120 and 35 mm film during the session and throughout the wedding. The total number of rolls does not equal the final number of images.

How many images do you provide in our wedding gallery?

For weddings, I promise 50-75 images per hour that I shoot.

What is your primary style of photography?

For weddings, I primarily shoot fine art style. Meaning I carefully craft each shot as if it were going to be printed and hung in a gallery. I also shoot lifestyle children and family sessions. Little girls couture, bridal and maternity sessions are shot with fine art film photography in mind.

Do you shoot natural light, artificial light or both?

Both! While I market myself as a natural light photographer I have in-depth knowledge of off camera flash and on most occasions shoot film using off camera flash.
