5 REASONS YOU NEED PINTEREST FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS

If you aren’t using Pinterest for your photography business, then you are missing out on tons of free marketing. Pinterest, like other social media platforms, comes with its own dedicated marketing strategy. With the right tools and a consistent strategy, it is possible to increase your potential client referrals and network base within a few short months.

Here are the 5 reasons you need Pinterest for your photography business:

FREE EXPOSURE

Pinterest has more than 150 million daily users. 150 MILLION!!! This is a sizable audience that you would otherwise not be able to engage with on your own without an extensive (expensive) marketing campaign. Photographers are no stranger to the ‘free exposure’ line. By joining group photography boards you have the ability to reach a wider audience than you would on your own. There are group boards with over 1000+ pinners with over 1 million+ followers. These are the boards you want to join.

PINNERS ARE OPEN TO YOUR MARKETING

Those brides with extensive Pinterest boards don’t just have these for inspiration. Many higher end clients, find these pins and contact the vendors directly to procure their services. After pinning images from this wedding in 2014, I received 5 bookings (2 weddings were later held at the exact same venue) because they wanted to work with the vendors that created this event directly.

Two-thirds of content on Pinterest is saved from businesses. When it comes to brands vs. people, 73% of Pinterest users polled prefer to follow brands over people. Unlike other social media platforms, as a business, this gives you a significant advantage. Pinners are engaged, loyal advocates; as with many brides, they know exactly what they want and how they want it. 93% of pinners use Pinterest to make/plan future purchases.

Pinning photos based on trends/seasons will allow you to reach that core group of brides looking for your service.

PINTEREST DRIVES REFERRAL TRAFFIC

When I’m pinning a photo, I always click the photo to view the photographer’s portfolio, it’s just a habit. Second, only to Facebook, businesses with click-worthy content on average see a 5% increase in traffic to their websites from Pinterest. If you currently use Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, adding Pinterest to the schedule will be significantly easier because of all the scheduling programs available such as Tailwind or Board Booster. While some engagement is necessary, unlike the other platforms your work speaks for itself.  The more appealing the photo, the better the chance you have of getting it repinned.

PINTEREST DRIVES TRENDS

This is especially important if you are a wedding planner, florist or any other wedding designer. YOUR designs are the ones clients are referring to their own planners when shopping. Create a call to action with your photos, get the photographer to tag you when pinning and repin the same image for maximum exposure.

Pinterest is a great way for planners, designers, and photographers to come together and really create a great networking community. While you may not be able to tag businesses in photos, giving proper credit in the photo description and pinning to a large board can help every vendor that had a hand in creating the event.

PEOPLE USE YOUR PINS FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

At the end of the day, we are all here for inspiration. Your photo can inspire someone’s life. Your design can inspire and create someone’s dream wedding. Why not let your pin be the one to make the difference. All it takes is just one.
